Pearl rope embraces vanity mirror.

Cleopatra used a sly trick to impress her compatriots and intimidate her enemies.  She would consume a pearl, considered one of the highest prized gems of the time.  Her trick was to drop a large pearl into a goblet of wine, which in those days was probably very close to vinegar.  Vinegar reacts with the pearl and dissolves it.  Hence, Cleopatra appeared to have swallowed a large pearl.

Legend says young Egyptian ladies would use these tiny bottles to collect the tears they shed while waiting for the return of a loved one. I just love their shapes, colors and light weight.

This needlepoint picture matches everything so well I couldn't resist this Ebay purchase. Also very light weight. The antique brass vases above the window have a flat profile so they fit well on the valance.
