![]() is the only word to describe
the H.L. Hunley crew's funeral. On April 17, 2004 the eight members
of the Confederate submarine, H.L. Hunley were finally laid to a hero's
rest in the Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, SC. The remains
of the men were discovered while exploring the recently raised submarine
that had sunk after successfully destroying the warship, the Housatonic.
The Hunley is the first submarine to be used in warfare, laying the foundation
for the many years of submarine use to follow. These men can be compared
to the astrounauts of today, volunteers for a cause for which they were
willing to sacrifice their lives, and did.
